RTO stops e-rickshaw promotions, tells manufacturers to take ad route

Pune: The regional transport place of business (RTO) has said it will no longer marketing campaign to advertise e-rickshaws, in spite of the gross sales being dismal. While manufacturers are surprised, RTO officers declare they have completed their phase.

"There has been only one registration for an e-rickshaw. For e-carts, there have been two. Many people are still ignorant about these options. There needs to be an extensive publicity campaign. However, we don't have any plans to advertise for these vehicles. The manufacturers, though, can team up to popularize them. The RTO will support that endeavour," Sagare Vinod, the deputy officer of RTO in Pune, told TOI.

On August 27, 14 routes were decided on for battery-operated automobiles. "The RTO said e-rickshaws cannot ferry children. Also, many people have told us that the selected routes are unfavourable. We have suggested a route revamp to the RTO officials, but haven't heard from them," said Ashok Gupta, an legit of AV Enterprises, a company that makes e-rickshaws.

Sumit Koley, an legit of Kinetic Green, some other manufacturer, said, "We are set to open showrooms at Pimpri, Airport Road and Satara. The manufacturers can get together and advertise. We are also planning customer gatherings every week."

Avinash Akolkar, who bought an autorickshaw, said, "The e-rickshaws carry fewer people. Also, they run on batteries. Will the authorities provide charging points and dedicated stands? People will be interested only when such facilities are provided."
