SHIMLA: Congress MLA from Dalhousie and All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Asha Kumari on Friday courted an argument after she slapped a lady constable out of doors the birthday party office in Shimla. Not in a position to carry again, the constable slapped her again and this used to be caught on camera by way of bystanders.
The 'slapgate' took place whilst Congress president Rahul Gandhi had reached the office to take inventory of the birthday party's defeat in the fresh meeting elections in Himachal Pradesh. A miffed Rahul told birthday party leaders that he didn't recognize such behaviour. A senior Congress leader told TOI that once seeing the video, Rahul expressed his displeasure and told Kumari that she must not have hit the cop.
Kumari later apologised to the constable, recognized as Asha. "I am of her mother's age and I should not have lost my cool. I apologise," she told journalists.
Himachal DGP Somesh Goyal said that a complaint used to be received from the lady constable and the matter used to be being appeared into and then appropriate action could be taken.
Given the tight security preparations for Rahul's visit, many of us have been stopped at the primary gate of the Congress office. When Kumari, in conjunction with former minister and Solan MLA Dhani Ram Shadil, reached the gate, she used to be also stopped there as several other people have been jostling with police officers to get in.
Kumari began arguing with the lady constable and in the video clip that went viral, she used to be observed slapping her first. In retaliation, the constable slaps her again. Things may have grew to become unsightly turn had others not intervened. Kumari claimed that constable used to be abusive or even pushed her.
