BEIJING: A Tibetan film-maker jailed in China for making a film in regards to the Olympics and Tibet has escaped from China and arrived in the United States, consistent with an activist workforce which campaigned for his release.

"After many years, this is the first time I'm enjoying the feeling of safety and freedom," the gang quoted him as announcing.
"I would like to thank everyone who made it possible for me to hold my wife and children in my arms again. However, I also feel the pain of having left behind my country, Tibet."
He have been released from prison in June 2014 in Qinghai provincial capital Xining however remained under tight surveillance along with his movements and communications monitored, the gang stated.
"Dhondup Wangchen was able to successfully evade the authorities and flee from his home area in Tibet and then the People's Republic of China altogether," it added, without giving details.
China's Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Xining police declined comment and the Qinghai provincial govt did not resolution telephone calls.
Qinghai, which borders the Tibet Autonomous Region, is home to a large ethnic Tibetan population and regarded as by way of many Tibetans as a part of higher Tibet. It is also the birthplace of exiled Tibetan religious chief the Dalai Lama.
