Assam publishes first draft of NRC with 1.9 crore names

GUWAHATI: The much-awaited first draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) used to be on Monday revealed with the names of one.9 crore other people out of the three.29 crore general applicants in Assam recognizing them as prison citizens of India+ .
The remainder of the names are under more than a few phases of verification, Registrar General of India Sailesh said at a press conference held at midnight where he made the draft public.

"This is a phase draft. It accommodates 1.9 crore persons+ , who have been verified till now. The remainder of the names are under more than a few phases of verification. As quickly as the verification is completed, we can come out with some other draft," he said.

NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela said the ones other people whose names had been excluded in the first checklist needn't fear.

"It is a tedious process to verify the names. So there is a possibility that some names within a single family may not be there in the first draft," said Hajela.

"There is no need to panic as rest of the documents are under verification," he said.

Asked concerning the imaginable time frame for the next draft, the RGI said it is going to be made up our minds as consistent with the ideas of the Supreme Court, under whose tracking the record is being prepared -- in its subsequent listening to in April.

The complete process will likely be finished within 2018, Sailesh said.

The utility process began in May, 2015 and a complete of 6.5 crore paperwork have been gained from 68.27 lakh families throughout Assam.

"The process of accepting complaints will start once the final draft is published as rest of the names are likely to appear in that," Hajela said.

The RGI knowledgeable that the bottom work for this mammoth exercise started in December 2013 and 40 hearings have taken place in the Supreme Court during the last three years.


Assam, which confronted influx from Bangladesh for the reason that early 20th century, is the one state having an NRC, first prepared in 1951.
