The Othakalmandapam the town panchayat, which spent an appalling amount on water provide maintenance, does now not have documents to verify their bills. The CAG audit file mentioned that ‘despite the fact that the panchayat claimed to have attended to leakages and spent lakhs of rupees on it, there was once no specification when and the place the leakage was once attended; what spare parts were used and who registered the proceedings. This has raised suspicions that the panchayat officials faked and exaggerated the expenses. In several expenses, the TDS has now not been added. Also, all firms that were involved in the purchase were not registered with the district management, as consistent with the file.
RTI activist Daniel Jesudas mentioned the panchayat bought the spares from a Coimbatore-based company named Bharat and Co. "There are several shops in and around the panchayat. But they purchased from a company that was not registered with the collectorate. Also, they did not get permission for these purchases from the collector," he mentioned.
Daniel alleged it was once one one that singlehandedly won
and persevered to get all of the contracts for works in the Othakalmandapam panchayat. "In almost every work, his company won the tender and got the contract," alleged Daniel. He mentioned some expenses were from the firms and were original. But some expenses are hand-written and didn't deduct taxes as smartly. The expenses for different works had the same amount written on them, which raised extra suspicion.
Indhumathi, former executive officer, mentioned the audit was once mistaken. "We did not spend so much," she mentioned.
