Ukraine's president signs bill on Russia-backed regions

KIEV: Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a invoice aimed toward reintegrating the territory in the nation's east controlled through Russia-backed separatists.

The invoice passed last month designates the areas in the Donetsk and Luhansk areas as 'briefly occupied' through 'aggressor nation' Russia. It envisages the use of military drive to get them again underneath Ukraine's keep watch over.

The warfare in the east erupted after Russia's annexation of Crimea and has killed more than 10,000 since April 2014. A 2015 peace settlement signed in Minsk has helped cut back hostilities, but clashes continue.

The invoice signed Tuesday accommodates no connection with the Minsk deal brokered through France and Germany that obliged Ukraine to go legislation offering broad autonomy to the separatist areas and amnesty to rebels. Most Ukrainian political forces reject that.
