LUDHIANA: Focal Point police have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of 2 accused, whilst one managed to escape, on Monday. The police have seized money value Rs 12,000 from their possession and an auto used by the accused.
The arrested accused were identified as Ajay Kumar of Shimlapuri and Rakesh Kumar of Guru Arjun Nagar, Sahnewal whilst their partner Shambhu managed to escape. The accused had been arrested via police from a checkpoint established close to Giaspura Chowk.
The SHO at Focal Point police station, Amandeep Brar mentioned on March 16 the trio had robbed a resident of Sherpur area, Anand Kumar, of Rs 48,000. Anand Kumar used to be boarding their auto rickshaw when the accused threatened him with a knife and robbed him. An FIR used to be lodged at Focal Point after the incident.
Further, assistant commissioner of police (ACP- South) Dharam Pal mentioned the accused have confessed of having performed seven such loots in numerous areas of the town.
While sharing about their modus operandi, ACP mentioned one of accused would power the car whilst two would sit down within posing as passengers. Most of the time the accused posing as passengers would rob the money and belongings on the right way to vacation spot. However, on dealing with protests from the sufferers, the accused would threaten passengers with sharp-edged guns.
The official added the accused Ajay Kumar has been dealing with trials under NDPS Act whilst Rakesh has been dealing with trials in 3 cases of loots.
