PONDA: PWD minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar, on Friday, confident traditional sand extractors that the Supreme Court judgement preventing mining within the state was once not acceptable to them. Traditional sand extractors alongside the Mandovi river had expressed their apprehension over the way forward for their industry.
“We have already paid the specified charge to the mines department just lately. We have 110 registered participants and their households are dependent at the industry,” said chairman of the River Mandovi Traditional Sand Extraction Association, Vishal Volvoikar. In 2012, when the mining ban had come into effect, sand was once also brought to a standstill. tnn
