BHUBANESWAR: A total of 14 highway overbridges (ROBs) are beneath building in several parts of the state recently. Out of these projects, paintings on only one ROB looks like it will meet the cut-off date. The ultimate 13 projects are running at the back of time table.
Of the 14 ROBs, the state government and the railways are building 12 overbridges on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis. The ultimate are being funded through the state government on my own.
Official assets said paintings on 8 ROBs - at Jagannathpur close to Berhampur, Ranaposhi in Dhenkanal district, Budhapanka in Angul district, Gangadharpur close to Balugaon, Bamulia and Soro in Balasore district, and Saheed Nagar and Pokhariput in Bhubaneswar- have been delayed through more than a yr. The 1.2-km-long Saheed Nagar ROB extending in opposition to Bomikhal and Rasulgarh has, in reality, been delayed through 3 years. The Pokhariput ROB within the Old Town space of the capital town has been delayed through four years.
The five other ROB projects were delayed through one to 6 months. These are to be constructed at Gopalpur junction, Berhampur, Muribahal in Titlagarh and in two puts in Rourkela district.
A senior professional of the works division said the projects had been getting delayed due to a number of issues akin to land dispute and design exchange.
Works minister Prafulla Kumar Mallik said he had sought a record from his division concerning the condition and the standing of existing and ongoing ROBs in order that steps may well be taken to verify their protection. "I know that some ROBs have been delayed. I will review the status of all ROBs and expedite construction," he added.
