Maha MLC polls: BJP, Sena win two seats each

MUMBAI: Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Pravin Pote on Thursday retained the Amravati local bodies seat within the Legislative Council biennial polls even as the Shiv Sena made considerable beneficial properties, successful two of the three seats it contested.

The Congress fared poorly in the entire 3 seats it contested -- Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadhchiroli, Parbhani-Hingoli and Amravati.

The counting for Osmanabad-Beed-Latur local bodies seat was deferred via the Election Commission because of a court docket order referring to suspension of some local bodies participants in Beed district.

In Amravati seat, Pravin Pote, the BJP candidate and the district's parent minister, swept the ballot with a thumping victory over his Congress rival Anil Madhogadhiya.

Reducing the battle to a 'no contest', Pote secured 458 of the 488 votes polled. The Congress nominee did not to find much favour as he got best 17 votes.

Three citizens opted for None of the Above (NOTA) choice whilst ten votes have been declared invalid.

Pote, who had first gained the seat in 2012, thanked the citizens for his win.

"I thank all the voters for reposing their faith in me. It is a vote to the BJP leadership in the state and at the Centre," he stated quickly after the outcome was announced.

In Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli, BJP's Ramdas Ambatkar gained via a margin of 37 votes, defeating his nearest Congress rival Indra Kumar Saraf.

In Parbhani-Hingoli, Shiv Sena's Viplove Bajoria gained the seat via defeating Congress' Suresh Deshmukh.

In Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Aniket Tatkare of the NCP defeated Rajiv Sabale of the Shiv Sena.


With today's effects, the BJP's tally within the 78-member Upper House remained the same at 18, whilst the NCP's got here right down to 21 from the earlier 23.
