KOLKATA: A mob of Metro passengers allegedly molested and thrashed some young ladies on Thursday night time for bold to protest against moral policing, the incident coming slightly 72 hours after Monday’s mob assault on a young couple.
The incident happened virtually at the same spot — just out of doors the Dum Dum Metro station premises — and served to underline the schism between the town’s liberal ethos and its moral police brigade. But Thursday’s incident underscored the most important distinction as neatly: it marked a fightback from children seeking their own house against a mob seeking to deny them that.
The ladies, accompanied by their male pals, went to 2 police stations — first the Government Railway Police station at Dum Dum (the place they were fobbed off over “jurisdiction” issues) and then the Sinthi police station — to check in their criticism. “We have had sufficient of this boorishness and mob violence,” one of the ladies instructed TOI on phone from the Sinthi police station. “We have now determined to struggle again,” add-ed certainly one of her pals.

We chose to not get provoked however, then, this guy in a yellow blouse came forward from nowhere and started the row,” every other Rabindra Bharati University scholar, Soumi Sen, said.
The woman, along with some of her pals, first went to the Dum Dum GRP, who refused to take their criticism, bringing up jurisdiction issues, and requested them to go to Sinthi police station. “The incident took place out of doors the station and the criticism will have to be lodged with the town police,” a GRP officer instructed them.
Metro Railway took the same line. “The incident took place out of doors the station. We don’t know whether there used to be any molestation. But we heard a group of 20-odd protesters attempted to go into the station premises and were stopped by safety workforce,” a Metro official said.
The protesters then went to Sinthi police station, the place they were requested to provide their names and call numbers ahead of a criticism used to be lodged. “We have accepted the criticism and are taking a look into the allegations,” a Sinthi police officer said.
