Oppn parties slam crackdown on Jacto-Geo protest

CHENNAI: Opposition parties DMK, Congress, PMK and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam condemned the police crackdown on agitating Tamil Nadu govt workers and teachers who attempted to march against the Secretariat here on Tuesday morning to lay siege to it.

The state govt workers and govt teachers, underneath the banner of the Joint Action committee of Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations (JACTO-GEO), were demanding cost of 21-month arrears after Tamil Nadu carried out the 7th Pay Commission suggestions. They also sought after the old pension scheme to be reintroduced.

DMK running president M Okay Stalin termed the crackdown at the state govt workers and teachers as a sign of “police raj.”
