Storms kill 8, damage 10,000 houses in April

GUWAHATIi: Thunderstorms accompanied via gusty winds have inflicted really extensive injury in the state during the continuing pre-monsoon season. According to the most recent Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) file, 8 people misplaced their lives in thunderstorms in April and over 50 thousand people had been affected in different districts across the Brahmaputra and Barak Valley spaces of the state.
An ASDMA spokesperson said 942 villages have been affected by thunderstorms from April 1 to April 28 as rain accompanied via thunderstorms wreaked havoc in different parts of the state.

"While a total population of 55,911 were affected by storms from April 1 to 28, a total of 8,106 kutcha and 1,273 pucca houses were partially damaged. As many as 586 kutcha and 29 pucca houses were fully damaged by storms during the month of April when pre-monsoon activities reached a peak," the ASDMA spokesperson told TOI.

As in line with reviews received from the respective district authorities, a total 75 institutions - including tutorial, spiritual and place of job institutions - had been hit via devastating storms during the same length, he added.

The scale of devastation in the month of April this yr, as ascertained via ASDMA, was higher than what was recorded in the same month last yr. Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Karimganj, Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Hojai and Darrang districts witnessed serious storms from the primary week of April.

It further said that the day temperature fell markedly in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, and fell appreciably in Nagaland during the last 24 hours.


The day temperature was markedly beneath standard in Manipur and Tripura, appreciably beneath standard in Assam and Meghalaya and above standard in Arunachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours.


The IMD forecast said thunderstorms with gusty wind are very prone to occur at remoted places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Tuesday and Wednesday, whereas heavy rainfall is prone to occur at remoted places over Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura on Tuesday and over Meghalaya on Wednesday.
