BATHINDA/FEROZEPUR: The state agriculture department, in a crackdown towards farmers defying the government directive on paddy transplantation, on Tuesday ploughed paddy transplanted in four acres and booked 5 farmers in Ferozepur for violating prohibitory orders.
It has additionally issued notices to farmers in Bathinda, asking them to plough transplanted paddy inside two days or face action. The farmers may also be fined Rs 10,000 in step with hectare as in step with provisions of the Punjab Preservation of Subsoil Water Act, 2009 for transplanting paddy ahead of the reputable date, June 20. Another farmer of Bathinda village stated, “We will not permit agriculture officers to enter our fields and we will jointly oppose it”.


When contacted, Punjab agriculture and farmer welfare department director J S Bains stated, “Notices had been issued to over a dozen farmers in Bathinda and those are being issued at other puts as smartly. The department has asked the district officers to method the DC and the SSP in case any regulation and order situation arises”.
