Consumer forum ‘last hope’ for customers

GHAZIABAD: The lockers that had been burgled within the Punjab National Bank branch in Modinagar closing 12 months were held most commonly through local buyers, who are fighting a case on the client forum in Delhi to claim losses incurred through them.

“We have little hope of the case getting cracked ever. After 12 months, the financial institution and police have shrugged off all duties and liabilities. There has been no progress within the investigation by any means. We have subsequently filed a case within the client forum in Delhi. It is our closing hope,” said Mukesh Goyal, a trader dealing in animal meals in Modinagar.

The locker-holders have estimated their losses in line with the present rates of gold and silver. “My losses add as much as Rs 40 lakh. The client case has been filed jointly through all the ones whose lockers were burgled,” said a former govt of Modi Textile Mills, Sudhir Bhatia.

Police said it was once very difficult to establish the veracity of the claims made through the locker-holders. The police identified that the ownership of 24kg of gold burgled from a PNB branch in Sonepat in 2014 could be made up our minds through a court. Haryana police had arrested three persons and recovered the gold which they'd stolen from the financial institution.

“The financial institution does no longer make it necessary for purchasers to reveal the contents in their lockers. In Haryana, for instance, even though the jewellery has been recovered, it will take years for the police to spot the homeowners,” said a financial institution supply.
