Ex-CEO of YEIDA held in MP over 126 crore land scam

Greater Noida: A former CEO of Yamuna Authority, P C Gupta, the principle accused in a Rs 126-crore land scam, was once arrested from Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district on Friday.
Gupta was once arrested at eight.30pm from Shri Pitambara Peeth in Datia where he had long gone along with his spouse Rekha and his driving force.

The police had filed an FIR against Gupta and 20 others on June three for obtaining 57.15 hectares of land in the YEIDA house at an inflated worth from family members and acquaintances, regardless that the land in reality had no utility. The FIR states that Gupta knowledgeable his family members and acquaintances about the acquisition prematurely, and the latter bought the land from farmers. YEIDA then obtained the land from them at double the rates in 2013-14 when Gupta was once CEO.

According to police, Gupta had fled his space in Greater Noida an afternoon prior to the FIR was once filed. He travelled to 4 states, including UP, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

While his mobile phone remained switched off, police were chasing him because the very beginning. SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ajay Pal Sharma informed TOI that a police team from Kasna police station were chasing Gupta because the day the FIR was once lodged.

Police assets said Gupta first travelled to Lucknow from where he went to Udaipur in Rajasthan. After Udaipur, his location was once found to be in Surat and then in Jaipur. From Jaipur, Gupta travelled to Madhya Pradesh’s Guna and finally to Datia.

“Gupta spent a couple of days in numerous resorts in most of these places. His motion and that of his family members were regularly monitored,” an officer said.

Even as police were intently tracking him, Gupta gave many a misses to them. There was once also a concern that he may flee to his son’s place in UK.

Sources said the police have at least 4 more persons on its radar and more arrests are most likely quickly. Amit Srivastava, circle officer, Greater Noida 1, said police would now search a transit remand for Gupta from the Datia courtroom and then he will be taken to the anti-corruption courtroom in Meerut. The courtroom in Meerut is more likely to despatched him in judicial custody.


The Greater Noida police then should search his custody.


Divisional commissioner Prabhat Kumar, on whose instructions an FIR was once lodged against Gupta, said that it was once just the “tip of the iceberg.” “I had taken up the matter with the executive minister and he was once very crucial of what had came about. He directed that each one must be jailed. I used to be in contact with the DGP and the ADG (Meerut) throughout,” he said.


He further said that the most recent inquiry ordered through YEIDA in Hathras may reveal a larger scam. TOI had reported on Thursday that some other land purchase deal on identical modus operandi has come underneath the commissioner’s scanner who ordered an inquiry into the matter.
