Mallya tweets again on why he broke silence now

NEW DELHI: Fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya on Wednesday stated he and his corporate United Breweries Holding Limited (UBHL) have requested permission from the Court to sell property price Rs 13,900 crore to pay off his money owed.

In a tweet on Wednesday morning Mallya stated, " Some people have been asking why I chose to make a statement at this time. I have made my statement because UBHL and myself have filed an application before the Hon’ble Karnataka High Court on June 22, 2018, setting out available assets of approximately Rs. 13,900 crores."

Mallya's explanation comes within the backdrop of a letter written via him to the top minister and finance minister in 2016, which he made public on Tuesday by means of micro-blogging website online Twitter. In the letter, Mallya denied that he used to be a wilful defaulter and stated he has transform the "poster boy of bank default" and a "lightning rod of public anger".

On Wednesday, in some other series of tweets he stated that UBHL and Mallya have sought permission to sell property and pay off creditors including public sector banks (PSBs). He took goal at investigating agencies Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central bureau of investigation (CBI) pronouncing in the event that they "object to the sale of assets, it will clearly demonstrate that there is an agenda against me “the Poster Boy” beyond recovery of dues".

"I continue to make every effort, in good faith to settle with the banks. If politically motivated factors interfere, there is nothing I can do," he also tweeted.
