Non-teaching staff at BU demand pay hike

Coimbatore: About 300 non-teaching body of workers of Bharathiar University on Monday staged a sit-in protest in front of the university’s syndicate corridor when the syndicate meeting was in growth, demanding pay hike. They also tried to picket higher schooling secretary Sunil Paliwal, who was chairing the meeting.

The staff mentioned they'd been demanding pay hike for greater than a 12 months. In the syndicate meeting held in September final 12 months, a committee comprising two syndicate individuals and a finance legit was formed to revise their pay, the workers mentioned. “The committee determined that our pay can be made equivalent to that of what the district collector had determined. But now, the higher schooling secretary says we would no longer give the pay fixed through the committee, but rather a 25% hike,” mentioned a protester.


The staff mentioned they have been under the designations of assistant technical officer (ATO) and place of job assistant (OA). “Several folks were running for greater than 10 years as daily salary labourers. But in 2015, non-teaching body of workers with consolidated pay have been appointed. If we're given 25% hike, the juniors who joined in 2015 will be getting more pay than those who were running for greater than 10 years,” mentioned any other employee.


Meanwhile, Paliwal mentioned the final salary fixation for non-teaching staff was executed in 2015. “The syndicate had determined to provide a 25% increase for each daily salary and consolidated pay staff in response to their 2015 salary and give them the arrears from November 2017. We will form a committee to address any discrepancies within the pay and in response to the person representations, we would rectify them,” he mentioned.TNN
