Robbers target ambulance on Mum-Pune highway

Navi Mumbai: Barely two months after a motorist was robbed at the previous Mumbai-Pune freeway, two robbers focused emergency ambulance service 108 close to Khalapur early on Thursday by blocking the pathway with picket chairs and robbing the motive force of gold and cash totalling Rs70,500. They didn't rob or hurt the woman physician who was within the ambulance, even though.

The ambulance was on its manner from Panvel towards Chowk, about 12km from Khalapur, based on an emergency call, police stated.

"At 2.15am on Thursday, when the 108 ambulance neared Lodhivali village, the driver Sachin Nimragi (21) saw the lane blocked by two wooden chairs. He halted and alighted to clear the way, but two men armed with wooden sticks suddenly jumped out of the bushes. Grabbing him, they hit him on the legs with the sticks and snatched gold and cash totalling Rs70,500 before vanishing into the bushes," API Mahendra Shelar of Khalapur stated.

It all came about in a minute. But the boys neither robbed nor harmed the panic-stricken lady physician seated inside the ambulance," Shelar stated.
