Shift cattle market from Tirupur city, demand farmers

Tirupur: Shortage of space might sound the death knell for the weekly livestock marketplace at Thennampalayam.
Thennampalayam has been webhosting one of the largest livestock markets in the area for several a long time. The native mattuthavani draws livestock owners from surrounding villages. When the buck city shifted focal point in opposition to knitwear industry and with livestock markets springing up elsewhere, the mattuthavani began to lose a few of its glory and reduced in size to a weekly marketplace. It has been held every Monday throughout the premises of a vegetable marketplace near the farmers’ daily marketplace on Palladam Road in Thennampalayam. The weekly marketplace receives livestock from various villages in Tirupur and the two neighbouring districts. Apart from the farmers who acquire livestock, investors who cater to the markets in Kerala, also attend it.

Though automobiles wearing livestock had been allowed to go into the marketplace earlier, now they're diverted through Palladam-Mangalam Road and circle the parallel street to reach the marketplace. While the marketplace opens at 1.30pm, the automobiles arrive at least three-four hours forward and wait in a long queue, causing heavy visitors congestion on the Palladam-Mangalam Road, which was once already overloaded because of development of an overbridge subsequent to the Old Bus Stand.

“Unlike other livestock markets, it opens in the afternoon. The animals, which can be exposed to the hot solar, become susceptible when they're ready to be traded. Moreover, in other markets, the livestock can be taken throughout the marketplace neatly forward of the starting time and they'd be let loose on the floor. But right here, they must be saved in the automobiles until they're allowed throughout the marketplace, which is just too small to deal with several livestock,” said R Anbalagan, driving force of a vehicle.

“As there's no protection from the solar, the animals become very susceptible. Recently, a cow, which was once saved in a vehicle, collapsed and died,” said Ok Kandasamy, a trader.

“We had been insisting the district administration to shift the weekly livestock marketplace out of town to unravel such issues. We learnt that the corporation has greater than 70 acres in Chinnakalipalayam, which is one in all splendid places for webhosting the marker as it might be accessed simply from various transit cities,” said R Eswaran of Inthiya Ulavar Ulaippalar Katchi.

A senior corporation authentic advised TOI that the civic body is discussing about the opportunity of moving the marketplace. “We would possibly shift it to a spot in Koyilvazhi,” he said.
