13,000 painting brushes seized in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) officers and wooded area officers seized just about 13,000 painting brushes suspected to be made from mongoose bristles from a stationery store in Madurai and any other store in Thirumangalam.

Based on specific information, officers carried out searches in the store in Madurai on Wednesday and seized eight,000 brushes. On Thursday, they seized 4,975 brushes from the Tirumangalam store.

Preliminary investigations published that both the department stores won the brushes from a supplier in Chennai. A small quantity came from Delhi-based trader.

Forest officers in Madurai stated they had collected a few sample brushes, which might be sent to Wildlife Survey of India officers in Chennai. The samples could be analysed through officers in Chennai. Further action could be taken in line with the result of the research.
