Fresh at the heels of the row that erupted in south Delhi over the felling of over 16,000 trees for a housing challenge, Gurgaon could also be facing a mass felling of trees within the Old Gurgaon house. On Saturday, activists and residents protesting the proposed tree-felling accumulated at Atul Kataria Chowk in Sector 17, raising slogans, hugging trees, and pledging to not let the authorities reduce them. A flyover and underpass has been proposed on the Atul Kataria Chowk to de-congest traffic on the busy intersection. The challenge will imply that as many as 1,300 trees within the house should be reduce. While the authorities have said they are going to plant saplings in lieu of the reduce trees, activists from the city say that's not enough. Anindita Kar Roy, one of the crucial organisers of Saturday’s protest, stated, “I did not invest in this city just for the workplaces and buildings. I did it for the greenery as neatly. As residents, we all have the responsibility to give protection to the fairway cover in Gurgaon. Some of those trees are 50-60 years outdated. How can they reduce them and plant saplings as reimbursement?”

Surinder Fursani, a member of the Bishnoi neighborhood, stated, “We worship these Khejri trees. We is not going to allow them to reduce these. Our neighborhood has been running to give protection to the trees and animals for centuries now. Even here, we're able to guard these trees 24x7. The govt must glance to transplant them in different places as a substitute of reducing them.”
The protesters hugged the trees in a throwback to the Chipko Movement, a woodland conservation motion to save trees that began within the ’70s. Uttarakhand-based inexperienced activist Ramesh Kumar Mumukshu, who has been a part of the Chipko Movement for just about 30 years, was once on the protes. He stated, “It is essential that these trees be saved. At a time once we must plant extra trees and increase inexperienced cover in our towns, puts like Gurgaon are doing the other.”
