Aye, aye! Hyderabad Sailing Week is back, and it's bigger and better than ever before

Come July three and Hussain Sagar will be abuzz with task as over 200 sailors from all over the place the rustic will vie for top honours at the Hyderabad Sailing Week 2018. This would be the 33rd version of the celebrated crusing championship and the organisers promise that the motion will be bigger and better than ever ahead of. “In 2017, a whopping 201 boats and 239 sailors participated in the event and the numbers will upward push further this year as the championship has been permitted as YAI National Ranking event,” informs Major Alok Yadav, setting up secretary of EME Sailing Association.
A countrywide ranking event
The stakes have long gone up for the sailors as Hyderabad Sailing Week 2018 will be a senior multi-class national ranking championship this year, as ordained through the Yachting Association of India (YAI). “It method the efficiency of the sailors will be ranked, earning them points for selection in the National Team in world championships,” explains Major Alok.
Organised through Laser Class Association of India, EME Sailing Association and Secunderabad Sailing Club in strengthen of Sports Authority of Telangana State, the six day event accommodates of 96 races in senior and Olympic categories reminiscent of Laser (Standard, Radial and 4.7) and RS:X, 470, Finn, 49er, 49erFX among others. The number of categories on the other hand, were limited on this year’s event. Major Alok adds, “Our categories of boats this year are Olympic categories of boats. And as the number of categories too have be limited as this year it’s a ranking event, we may see a bit dip in participation.”

International panel of judges
That’s now not all, the championship this year may also see International Tech Officers (ITO) for the primary time in a regatta in the country. “Sailing is a self-disciplinary recreation and there's a panel of jury who keep a watch at the sailors. If sailor has a criticism against any other sailor throughout a race and he files an professional criticism off the waters, it's heard through the jury. And on this regard, the crusing week 2018 will have 5 world judges, 3 of whom are foreigners. So, the standards would be of the easiest level as a lot of these judges represent the World Sailing Federation,” adds Major Alok.


20 sailors from Telangana Sports School in the fray for top honours

Over the years, the Hyderabad Sailing Week has all the time been preceded through a training camp.
