MANGALURU: Whirlwinds, which blew across the Dakshina Kannada district since Sunday morning, created havoc at many puts while destructive several electrical poles due to tree fall.
Mescom officers estimated that on Sunday by myself 315 electrical poles within the district have been damaged and Puttur taluk bore the brunt with greater than 200 electrical poles being damaged, cutting off supply to person properties in rural villages. Monday’s injury is but to be estimated.
Though 33Kv and 11Kv lines have been restored or are being restored across the district, power in low tension lines has no longer been restored due to faults at more than one locations due to tree fall or branches falling at the power lines.
Savanoor village in Puttur taluk bore the brunt of the whirlwind with greater than 100 poles being uprooted or damaged. In Savanoor 11Kv line was no longer operational and can be restored by means of Monday night time mentioned Mescom resources.
On Sunday, several electrical poles have been damaged due to tree fall at Panjala, Narimogeru Panchayat of Puttur Taluk. This ended in disruption of power in Panjala, Mothethadka, Narimogeru, Kuriya, Mundooru, Ammunja and surrounding areas. In Mangaluru, tree fall ended in at least 15 electrical poles getting damaged in Baikampady, Valencia, Mulihitlu and Maroli areas of the city. Power in those space has been partly restored.
KSNMDC has warned fishermen to not challenge into the sea until Monday 11.30pm as prime waves had been forecast.
RAINFALL ON JULY 16: The district recorded 31mm of rainfall within the closing 24 hours from eight.30am of Sunday. Sullia Taluk received the easiest rainfall of 51 mm, with Mangaluru taluk receiving the least at 8mm of rainfall. Bantwal, Belthangady and Puttur taluks received 15mm, 48 and 33mm of rainfall respectively. Last year, the district had received 30mm of rainfall at the similar day.
The water stage in Nethravathi River at Bantwal was 5.eight meters with threat stage being eight.5 meters. The water stage of Nethravathi River at Uppinangady and Kumaradhara River have been well beneath threat ranges at 22.0 meters each with threat ranges being 28.5 meters and 29.5 meters respectively.
