Kuwaiti couple attack Sri Lanka customs over pet dog

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan police on Friday arrested a Kuwaiti couple accused of attacks which left 5 customs officials in clinic after they attempted to stop the vacationers smuggling a puppy dog, officials mentioned.

A 32-year-old girl and her 29-year-old male partner grew to become violent once they had been advised of quarantine requirements and attempted to escape Colombo airport with the animal, police and customs agents mentioned.

"A woman customs guard was badly hurt after she was attacked by the Kuwaiti woman," customs spokesman Vipula Minuvanpitiya advised AFP.


"Four other customs officers were also injured when they tried to stop the couple attacking people. All five have been hospitalised."


Airport police mentioned they had by no means recorded the sort of case over a puppy dog.


Police mentioned the Kuwaiti couple had been being held at a police station close to the airport and would appear earlier than a Justice of the Peace on Saturday.
