Man hires load men to steal seized gutka products, held

Coimbatore: A 39-year-old man was once arrested for making an attempt to scouse borrow gutka merchandise, which police had seized earlier this month, from a sealed godown at Krishna Nagar on Chokkampudur Road right here at the early hours of Wednesday.
According to police, godown owner had employed five load males to take 1,500kg gutka merchandise that was once seized right through a raid on July 2 out from the sealed godown.

However, the burden males spotted the seal and refused to wreck into the godown. Police on patrol accountability noticed them and arrested the godown owner, whilst the burden males had been let off after inquiry.

The arrested was once known as P Ashok, 39, of Uppara Street. He was once a supplier of gutka to quite a lot of portions of the district. Ashok was once booked beneath Section 379 (theft) learn with 511 (making an attempt to devote offences) of the Indian Penal Code and produced prior to a judicial magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days. Later, Ashok was once lodged on the Coimbatore Central Prison.

On July 2, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officials had performed a raid on the godown at Krishna Nagar and seized 1,500kg gutka merchandise price Rs 17 lakh from there. The food protection officials also sealed the godown and asked the city police to deploy armed reserve police to guard the same.


On Wednesday early morning, a staff of police group of workers, who had been on evening rounds, noticed a couple of load males on Chokkampudur Road. During inquiry, the burden males informed police that Ashok had requested them to load some tobacco merchandise from his godown. “He took them to the godown. Finding that it was once sealed through government officials, the burden males refused to wreck open the seal and returned,” an investigation officer stated.


Police took them to Selvapuram police station. Cops also picked up Ashok for questioning. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the burden males had been blameless and so they had been due to this fact let off.


Based on a complaint lodged through food protection officials, the Selvapuram (crime) police registered a case in opposition to Ashok and remanded him in judicial custody on Wednesday evening.
