Policemen save fleeing criminals from drowning

NEW DELHI: Cops chasing three armed robbers became their rescuers after the two of them, in a bid to outrun the sleuths, jumped into the Najafgarh drain and began drowning. The three boys had stopped an e-rickshaw and robbed it at knifepoint from outside a housing society in Dwarka Sector 19.

According to DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse, two of the accused have been recognized as Amir and Bijender whilst the 3rd, a juvenile, has been sent to a correction home.

The incident came about on Wednesday when an e-rickshaw driving force was once going to Dwarka Sector 19. He was once stopped by means of three men who asked to be taken to Dhulsiras village. As they began travelling, one of the crucial accused pulled out a knife and threatened to harm the motive force. The accused men then took the motive force’s cash and advised him to get off the car.

As the lads fled, the rickshaw driving force informed the police officers and a PCR message was once circulated in the area. Teams stationed close by have been alerted and the colour of the accused’s t-shirts was once relayed to them.

A police van spotted the e-rickshaw and began chasing it. Passersby, who saw the chase, additionally joined in and began following the e-rickshaw. Panicking, the robbers took a swift flip and began driving in opposition to Najafgarh drain.


As the group, led by means of ACP (Dwarka) Rajender Singh drew closer, Amir and the juvenile jumped from the moving e-rickshaw into the drain even as their 3rd affiliate drove away with the car. The police group stopped following the e-rickshaw and instead went down the forested path in a bid to trace the duo.


Cops spotted Amir looking to swim to the opposite facet. But halfway, he lost his strength and began drowning. Police, in the meantime, alerted the fire division to get in their rescue groups. Realising that the lads may drown earlier than any help arrived, one of the crucial police officers jumped in the drain and rescued the robber. The juvenile was once later nabbed after a search operation, which lasted for more than two hours.


Subsequently, police officers questioned the duo concerning the 3rd affiliate who printed his location. A group raided Bijender’s area and arrested him with the stolen e-rickshaw.
