Spymaster returns after 9 yrs as police chief

MUMBAI: The parallels between the incoming and outgoing police commissioners of Mumbai are exhausting to pass over. Datta Padsalgikar, who's taking on as director common of Maharashtra police after two years as CP, used to be with the Intelligence Bureau, the rustic’s domestic intelligence company, in Delhi for 10 years ahead of returning to Mumbai. His successor, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (55), used to be with the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s exterior intelligence company, ahead of returning to Mumbai from Delhi after 9 years.

Padsalgikar used to be the primary officer from the IB to turn out to be CP. Jaiswal, a low-profile IPS officer of the 1985 batch, who served as further secretary in RAW for three years but used to be with the company since 2009, took price of the town’s police force on Saturday evening.

Padsalgikar, who replaces Satish Mathur as DGP, is supposed to retire at the finish of August, but the state govt has sought a hard and fast two-year term for him in line with the Supreme Court’s directives.

Having began out as further superintendent of police, Amravati, in 1986, Jaiswal has served in various parts of the state, together with as Mumbai's further commissioner of police.

New best cop had probed Telgi, 2006 teach blasts

Jaiswal also served as head of the 2005 prime court-appointed Special Investigating Team (SIT) that probed Abdul Karim Telgi’s fake stamp papers scam.

Retired IPS officer SS Puri used to be the other member of the panel. Jaiswal headed the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and used to be answerable for investigating the 2006 serial teach blasts and 2006 Malegaon blast case.

Padsalgikar first took price of the state police on Saturday after which arrived at 6pm at the city police headquarters at Crawford Market at hand over price to Jaiswal. The new police commissioner stated, “I am proud and grateful that the federal government has given me such accountability and that I have been chosen from among many officers. I can continue the elemental policing (practices) set via my predecessor. My predecessors have set positive standards which I can uphold.”

Asked about his priorities, Jaiswal stated, “The challenges of working in Mumbai will remain the similar, the only exchange will be the instances. And my team will take challenges as they come.”

The govt’s transfer to bring in Jaiswal got here amid speculation that IPS officers Sanjay Barve and Parambir Singh may get the post. Jaiswal, born on September 22, 1962, is about to retire in September 2022. If Padsalgikar will get a hard and fast tenure of 2 years as DG as in line with the Supreme Court tips, Jaiswal will serve in the city for two years.
