STF seizes 9.5 Lakh banned pills, but is powerless to act against druggist

LUDHIANA: On an afternoon when the Special Task Force (STF) of Ludhiana police seized nine.57 lakh banned pills price Rs 46.77 lakh from two pharmacies and their godowns in Pindi side road, law enforcement officials discovered themselves helpless as they couldn’t take any motion against the owner as in step with the law.
Importantly, law enforcement officials suspected those pills have been offered to drug addicts.

The raid that began past due on Friday night concluded at 3am of Saturday. According to officers, the pharmacy had no bill for those pills.

Accompanied by means of officers from the medication department, STF sleuths performed raids at Appy Farma, Jai Ma enterprises and godowns, all owned by means of Praveen Goyal. Earlier on May 10, law enforcement officials and officers of the medication department had seized intoxicating pills price Rs five.29 lakh from Appy Farma.

According to STF and medicine department, the pharmacy proprietor is a license holder and thus he cannot be booked or arrested regardless of the massive restoration. The medicine department has meanwhile served him a understand over the restoration and has recommended the state authority to cancel his license.

Ironically, the process to cancel licence has no cut-off date and till that time the accused can proceed his business.


STF AIG Sanehdeep Sharma mentioned, “Following a tip-off, the STF group led by means of sub-inspector Harbans Singh performed a raid at two pharmacies and godowns in Pindi side road on Friday night and recovered intoxicating pills price Rs 46.78 lakh which have been without expenses. Moreover, a number of pills had expired. The majority of the pills have been that of tramadol.”


Sharma mentioned, “Since the pharmacy has got the licence, we concerned the zonal licensing authority (medicine), health department, within the raid. According to the law if a licensee pharmacist is held with pills without expenses, he cannot be booked or arrested. The health department can take motion most effective via a correct channel.”


Dinesh Gupta, zonal licensing authority (medicine), mentioned, “The motion might be taken beneath Sections 23-B (II) and 27- C of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act beneath which the accused can get a punishment of 5 to seven years with fine of Rs 1 lakh or three times upper than the restoration.”
