MANGALURU:For students of the federal government college in far off Ragihaklu village in Karnataka’s Udupi district, Mahadeva Manja is not just their instructor. He may be the driving force who ferries them safely to and from college in his personal automotive. But for Manja’s ‘delivery service’, 20-odd students would have dropped out.


Manja is the head instructor of the varsity with 94 students in Baindoor taluk. The college is 4km from the Souparnika river and students have to stroll via a forested stretch. Manja realised the children were finding it tough to trek to school and parents must keep them at home.

Mahadeva Manja may be the driving force who ferries them safely to and from college in his personal automotive.


“Our village doesn’t have right kind public transportation and all through the monsoon, the stretch is unsafe for youngsters. The choice of admissions has been losing. To stem this, I started this initiative,” says Manja. He selections up 20 children, including eight women, from the river financial institution. In the evening, he guarantees they return safely.


Now, when Manja is unavailable, every other instructor or member of the varsity committee helps the children.
