NEW DELHI: After Mumbai’s Victorian and Art Deco constructions have been declared international heritage sites on Saturday by Unesco, Delhiites have been left wondering why the capital hasn’t been within the reckoning for international heritage city standing despite being the frontrunner a couple of years ago.
In January 2014, Delhi was once pitched as priority submission to Unesco for heritage inscription ahead of Mumbai. Later that month, both dossiers have been submitted. But the next yr, Delhi’s nomination was once withdrawn just days prior to the Unesco panel was once meant to meet to take a final name in Germany. Four years hence, Delhi’s dream stays unfulfilled while Mumbai has leaped ahead.
