NEW DELHI: The Centre has determined to scale up flood rescue and relief operations in Kerala by deploying further manpower and equipment. Acting on the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cabinet secretary P Ok Sinha on Thursday chaired a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) to review the existing flood state of affairs and make further preparations for continued and scaled up help to the state.
In the meeting, the cupboard secretary pressed into service the entire forces – Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, NDRF and different Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs); and directed that each one possible help must be supplied to Kerala for relief and rescue operations. Sinha also directed that relief material including provide of consuming water, dry meals packets and powdered milk be made to be had to Kerala. For correct reservoir control in Mullaperiyar Dam, a committee chaired by Chairman, Central Water Commission and Engineers-in-Chief of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, has been constituted.
The meeting was once attended by secretaries of Union ministries of defence, home, water resources; chiefs of Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF); Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA); Chairman, Central Water Commission (CWC) and different senior officers. Kerala also participated over video conference and was once represented by the state chief secretary and his team. Cabinet Secretary took inventory of the situation, preparedness, rescue and relief operations and directed that rapid and continued help be supplied to Kerala to satisfy this crisis.
As of now, 18 teams of NDRF, 9 columns and 8 teams of Engineering Task Force (ETC) of the Army, 22 teams of Coast Guard, 24 diving teams of Navy in conjunction with helicopters, aircrafts, boats, apparatus, existence buoys, existence jackets, and so on., had been dispatched to lend a hand Kerala in rescue operations in addition to evacuation of stranded folks. Besides this, scientific help may be being supplied by NDRF, Army, Navy including in special scientific camps. So some distance, 2,182 folks had been rescued and 968 evacuated thru advised motion by NDRF, Army and Navy.
The NCMC will meet once more on Friday to review the situation.
