KOCHI: Kerala leader minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the visiting Union home minister Rajnath Singh in quest of Rs 8,316 crore as a unique package for dealing with the placement coming up from extraordinary floods following heavy monsoon rains.
The central minister had previous carried out an aerial survey of the flood ravaged Idukki and Ernakulam districts.
"As it requires more time to make a detailed assessment of the damage that has been caused, we require an immediate assistance of Rs 1,220 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund," stated Vijayan's memorandum.
The leader minister has identified that this round of calamity comes close at the heels of the damages that was caused because of the heavy rains closing month and for that a sum of Rs 820 crore was already cleared via the central crew.
"...taking into the grievous situation now prevailing, there should be a more liberal approach when deciding the rates of compensation," added Vijayan.
The memorandum states that since Thursday until Sunday 37 other people died whilst 5 others had been reported lacking.
Rajnath Singh instructed the media that the state has witnessed the worst ever state of affairs since 1924 and there was all round injury caused to plants, houses, properties besides tourism actions and the lives of 1 lakh other people had been affected.
The minister stated that taking into account the grave state of affairs, "I have made an immediate release of Rs 100 crore" and a brand new central crew would be despatched soon for the overview of the damages.
Rajnath Singh also met a delegation of the Congress-led opposition besides leaders from his birthday celebration also.
