Zimbabwe riot police break up opposition press conference

HARARE: Zimbabwean rebel police entered a Harare resort on Friday to break up a planned press conference via opposition chief Nelson Chamisa, who has rejected election effects announced within the early hours of the morning.

The police, wearing shields and teargas canisters, prevented the event from beginning on the Bronte Hotel within the capital, AFP journalists witnessed.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa used to be declared victor after winning 50.8 in line with cent of the vote in Monday's historic first polls since Robert Mugabe's ousting remaining 12 months -- simply enough to avoid a run-off against Chamisa, who scored 44.3 in line with cent.

Chamisa has lashed out at what he known as "unverified fake results".

"The level of opaqueness, truth deficiency, moral decay & values deficit is baffling," he wrote on Twitter.

Opposition allegations of foul play had already sparked a deadly crackdown on protesters within the capital on Wednesday when troops opened fire, killing six.
