NEW DELHI: In a rare acknowledgement, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on Monday stated that the Congress performed a very powerful function in India’s freedom battle.

“Congress performed a big function within the freedom movement and gave India many great personalities,” Bhagwat stated whilst addressing the three-day tournament - ‘The Future of Bharat: An RSS’ Perspective’ at Vigyan Bhawan within the nationwide capital.

Bhagwat's remark came at the first day of the three-day conclave aimed toward selling a greater understanding of the organisation. During his 80-minute-long speech, the RSS chief touched upon several issues -- He spoke concerning the lifestyles and the works of KB Hedgewar, the founding father of RSS, the social evils plaguing our society, the significance of range within the country and India’s freedom battle, including Congress's function in it.

Underlining the vast range within the country, Bhagwat stated that the diverse tradition of the rustic should be revered, celebrated and it should now not be a reason why for any discord in society.

"India is a country full of diversity and it must be respected and celebrated," he stated, adding that it should now not turn into a reason why for "discord" within the society.

The outreach comes at a time when the Congress-led opposition has been ramping up attacks at the RSS, accusing it of marketing divisive ideology and attacking minorities.
