BENGALURU: Two years after China opened a floor station at the North Pole, the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) plans to set up its first overseas floor station there, essentially to reinforce the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) operations crucial no longer only for civilian needs like disaster management but in addition for the armed forces.
Isro has a full-fledged IRS programme with a constellation of earth observation satellites, with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad managing information acquisition and processing, information dissemination, aerial far off sensing and choice strengthen for disaster management.
“The plan will take a while to materialise as it comes to large logistical demanding situations, world approvals and co-operation,” a scientist stated, including that any hardware set up is a complex activity and demanding situations are harder given the extreme weather prerequisites.
