COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena prorogued the parliament with impact from 12 noon on Saturday, an afternoon after he removed Ranil Wickremesinghe as high minister and replaced him with former chief Mahinda Rajapaksa.
"The president has prorogued the parliament," cupboard spokesman Rajitha Senaratne advised reporters.
The transfer comes after Wickremesinghe, who says he remains high minister, prompt the speaker to convene the parliament on Sunday to prove he still retained his parliamentary majority.
