Achuthanandan supports Wall, corrects Kanam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Administrative reforms commission chairman and previous chief minister V S Achuthanandan on Sunday clarified that he is no longer towards the Women's Wall.

Responding to a commentary through CPI chief Kanam Rajendran, the veteran Marxist stated he had never commented towards the Wall, and the former has "misjudged his statement on the Women's Wall slated for January 1."

Earlier in the day, Rajendran came down heavily on Achuthanandan, and questioned whether the veteran was still with the CPM.

Achuthanandan had previous objected to the federal government joining fingers with caste outfits for organizing such an event to offer protection to renaissance values.

Speaking to journalists in Alappuzha, Rajendran stated the LDF unanimously took the verdict to shape the Wall. "One should ask VS whether his stand on Women's Wall was right or not. If the CPM has a role in making the decision to form the wall, then all the CPM members are responsible for that decision," he stated.

The CPI chief added that the Wall would no longer be a political one. "Those wishing to offer protection to renaissance values can take part in the Women's Wall,'' he stated.

Rajendran additionally snubbed Achuthanadanan's displeasure over the hot LDF enlargement.

"Nobody in the LDF has stated that Indian National League (INL) is a communal celebration. INL has been with the LDF for the past 25 years as a mundane celebration. The political celebration of R Balakrishna Pillai was with us in the last polls. There is little need in saying Balakrishna Pillai is a corrupt chief. When the celebration of Pillai's left the UDF, they publicly stood with the LDF. There is not any need to look at the outdated horoscope of Balakrishna Pillai,'' he stated.

Criticizing the NSS, Rajendran stated that organization will have to decide whether they want a renaissance or a liberation struggle.
