Ex-Ranji cricketer held with liquor

Vadodara: A former Ranji cricketer was once arrested by means of the police for carrying liquor within the city on Sunday afternoon. Arjunsinh Chavda, 42, was once nabbed near Mahatma Gandhi Nagargruh at about 3.30 pm after his car rammed right into a police automobile parked by means of the roadside. The police mentioned that when they checked Chavda’s car, they found liquor bottles inside.

“We have been on duty near Gandhi Nagargruh when Chavda’s car rammed into my automobile. So we took Chavda to Raopura police station and filed a grievance of rash driving towards him. Later his car was once checked following which we found liquor bottles inside,” mentioned D Ok Rao, police inspector (in-charge), Raopura. The police seized eight 750 ml of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) bottles and two 500 ml beer bottles.


When requested if Chavda was once drunk, Rao denied it. “We will search his remand on Monday to find out the supply from which he got liquor,” Rao added. The police have registered two separate FIRs of twist of fate and Prohibition Act. Chavda, a resident of Kirti Kunj Society in Karelibaug was once a member of the Baroda Ranji squad in 1990s.


An all-rounder, he has performed eight Ranji matches from 1996 to 1999. He was once also a member of the Saurashtra cricket group. The police mentioned that it has arrange extensive patrolling across the city forward of the New Year Eve to crackdown on the ones consuming in addition to ferrying liquor.
