Finally, PWD begins road repair works

Thiruvananthapuram: Finally, the general public works division (PWD) has begun repair of the Peroorkada-Sasthamangalam Road, which used to be dug up for pipe laying works of the Kerala water authority (KWA). The PWD hopes to complete the works inside of two days.
Though the KWA handed over the stretch to PWD for recovery round 6 months in the past, the PWD could now not take up works due to laxity from the a part of the contractor.

Despite a number of warnings, the contractor did not mobilize men and equipment for the works. Following a contemporary assembly, PWD gave a final warning to the contractor.

The contractor after all agreed to start paintings on Sunday.

Traffic can be diverted via Peroorkada-Ambalamukku-Kowdiar-Vellayambalam-Sastamangalam stretch due to tarring works in Peroorkada-Sasthamangalam Road on Monday.

The highway used to be dug up by way of the KWA for replacing outdated premo pipes with mild steel pipes.

Pipes were replaced in the stretch from Peroorkada to Sasthamangalam.

Local residents had conducted a strike some months in the past towards the delay in execution of works. Okay Muraleedharan MLA too had convened a meeting of PWD officers to hurry up the works.

The PWD took a call to not terminate the contractor, in spite of the delay, as it might further delay the venture.


PWD is doing recovery of only the portion of the stretch which used to be dug up for the paintings.


The paintings is undertaken the usage of the Rs 65 lakh provided by way of KWA as recovery rate.


PWD had finished recovery works in the Ambalamukku-Muttada stretch.
