PUNE: A gang of five hacked a 19-year-old prison to death in his home in the early hours of Sunday in Dapodi.
The Bhosari police have known the deceased as Alvin Ravi Rajgopal of Kailas Jadhav Chawl at Jai Bhimnagar in Dapodi. "We know the identities of all five youths. We will soon arrest them," said Sunil Gade, assistant inspector of the Bhosari police.
Gade said that Rajgopal's grandmother Pushpa Rajgopal (70) and aunt Clara Kitto (55) suffered minor injuries in the attack. Kitto has lodged a grievance with the police.
Gade said Rajgopal had attempt to murder and frame offence instances registered in opposition to him with the Pimpri Chinchwad police. "About four months ago, Rajgopal had beaten up one of the suspects following a dispute, prompting them to hatch the murder plot," Gade said.
Around 2am on Sunday, when Rajgopal was once fast asleep in his room, the suspects brandishing guns barged in. "They attacked Rajgopal with sharp weapons, concrete blocks and stones," Gade said, adding, "Rajgopal had received 45 blows on his body."
