PMK keeps alliance options open, DMK not too interested

COIMBATORE: With the Lok Sabha elections round-the-corner, the PMK, known to swing between the AIADMK and DMK-led alliances prior to now, is carefully weighing its choices for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. On Sunday, on the conclusion of his birthday celebration’s twoday general body meeting in Coimbatore, PMK formative years wing president and de-facto leader Anbumani Ramadoss instructed newshounds, “We will shape an alliance with like-minded events for the Lok Sabha elections". The PMK’s general body accepted his father and PMK founder S Ramadoss to come to a decision on matters pertaining to electoral alliances.

Sources say that DMK is far from thinking about together with PMK in its grand Congress-inclusive alliance in Tamil Nadu for the reason that the birthday celebration was once likely to drive a hard bargain for seats. But, the AIADMK may have already sent out feelers to embrace the vanniyar birthday celebration into its fold, which, in all likelihood, would come with Narendra Modi’s BJP as neatly. “While the PMK would like to crew up with the DMK-Congress alliance, it's preserving its choices open,” said a senior birthday celebration chief, seeking anonymity. “But, we can not accept anything not up to ample,” the chief added. The PMK, he said, was once all set to drive a hard bargain and hoped for the deal it got in 2004 as a part of the UPA – 5 seats in TN but even so the lone Puducherry seat. But, with DMK having to deal with many friendly events, together with the Congress, MDMK, VCK, CPI and CPM, that would prove a tough bargain for the PMK, sooner or later forcing it in opposition to an AIADMK-led alliance.

Given the compulsions, a cautious PMK kept away from attacking each AIADMK and DMK throughout its meeting. But for its call for for sacking health minister C Vijaya Bhaskar over the controversy of a pregnant woman being inflamed through blood donated through a HIV positve donor and his next suicide, the PMK was once silent on each events. One answer handed on the meeting, on the other hand, accused the BJP of being miserly in liberating cyclone reduction funds for Tamil Nadu. In fact, the PMK was once careful not to attack the Congress, DMK or AIADMK in any of its resolutions.

When wondered about this through newshounds, Anbumani said below the Congress-led UPA regime, Sri Lankan Tamil and fishermen problems were not redressed. “We condemned the Congress too. As for alliances, our birthday celebration founder will come to a decision,” said Anbumani.

Another answer took credit score for the quite a lot of welfare schemes presented in Tamil Nadu throughout the 2004-09 UPA regime when Anbumani Ramadoss was once health and circle of relatives welfare minister and R Velu was once Union minister of state for railways. “The PMK should have more representatives in the Lok Sabha,” said Anbumani, the PMK’s lone MP.
