Prasadam packs to display best-by date

MYSURU: If the endowment and health departments have their way, the puliyogare out of your native temple may come in a packet with a best-before date and the list of components that you were all the time considering.

Following the meals poisoning tragedy at Sulwadi Maramma temple in Kollegal in which 17 other folks were killed, the federal government is thinking about an action plan to make prasadam safer and healthier. Among the measures being regarded as are temple prasadam packets and holy water (thirtha) bottles that may show the manufacturing date, expiry date and details of the components used for the preparations.


Sources within the endowment department told TOI that quickly, prasadam and thirtha shall be introduced below the ambit of FSSAI (meals protection authority) approval.


Dr S Chidambara, in-charge officer for meals protection in Mysuru, mentioned, “If prasadam merchandise aren't packed, they will no longer come below the provisions of the (FSSAI) act. But if the prasadam is packed, the main points should be imprinted on the pack.”


“The proposal will include making public details about the product sold, and the approval licence shall be mandatory for all prasadam merchandise. We can even make certain that the goods are ready in a hygienic position below CCTV surveillance, and that the staff who paintings within the kitchen are vaccinated, and so on. The bottles used for the packaging should also be certified through the regulatory agencies,” the official added.
