BENGALURU: Forest officials and NGO Wildlife SOS have rescued a male sloth bear from a 40-foot-deep well in Thovinakkere near Kortegere near Tumakuru on Wednesday morning.
The well is positioned nearly 700 meter from a neighbouring forest, which is home to a plethora of wildlife species. On hearing the distressed cries of the animal, the land proprietor right away reported the incident to the forest division officials who in turn contacted Wildlife SOS, an NGO.
A four-member rescue team led through Dr Nithin Gowda of Wildlife SOS along side forest division officials rushed to the site, with the vital apparatus in position.
After preliminary review, the sloth bear used to be tranquillised to further continue with the rescue operation. A big protection web used to be reduced down the well and the animal used to be safely extricated. The sloth bear seemed to have slipped whilst reaching out for the honeycombs on the periphery of the well.
Wildlife SOS veterinarian Dr Nithin Gowda, “On arrival, we discovered the bear used to be struggling at the bottom of the well. After following the vital protection measures, our team used to be in a position to lift the bear from the well. Following that, a whole orthopaedic examination used to be carried out to evaluate any inner accidents the animal might have sustained owing to its fall. After mandatory observation, the sloth bear used to be released again into the wild.”
