Surat pins hopes on smart street lights to save energy

SURAT: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) plans to install occupancy sensors, smart boulevard lights and sun trees in gardens and other places to avoid wasting and generate inexperienced power. A pilot project will be introduced soon.

Civic officers of Rander zone have installed 11 smart boulevard mild poles on strategy to Gaurav Path from While Pearl Building. These poles work as per the density of visitors on road. If visitors density is skinny in late evening hours, the illumination degree will cut back.


Kirit Suvarnakar, in-charge govt engineer, SMC, stated, “At provide, after midnight we switch off lights or cut back lighting fixtures on certain roads to avoid wasting power. Smart boulevard lights will help us save power in a big way.”


The occupancy sensors will even cut back power consumption. Once these sensors are fitted in the rooms, if they're unoccupied, lights, lovers and air-conditioners will prevent functioning.


The idea of sun tree in gardens will cross some distance in saving power too. Solar trees are complementary to rooftop sun techniques. They will produce electrical energy, which can be utilized for various purposes, specifically for charging batteries.


SMC will even experiment with standalone sun mild poles suited to a rechargeable battery. When a generator is suited to a gymnasium equipment, it's going to produce electrical energy should any individual use it. Under smart city regime, our goal is to produce clean inexperienced power, Suvarnakar added.
