Teachers in BCU, BU evaluation tug-of-war

Both universities have asked them to start assessment from Monday

The diktats issued by means of both the Bangalore University (BU) and Bengaluru Central University (BCU) registrar of assessment has created confusion amongst lecturers, who will begin assessment work. Evaluation of the odd-semester papers that concluded not too long ago wishes to start from Monday, but both the schools have asked the lecturers to come for assessment ‘compulsorily’.

The Registrar of assessment of BU says it has around 15 lakh solution scripts, which need to evaluated first. He says the other two universities can perform work after this. But the BCU Registrar of assessment does now not suppose so. He too has asked the lecturers to start on assessment work from this week.

Evaluation orders issued from both the schools specifies mandatory assessment work and lecturers who have were given the orders do not know where they will have to move. A senior faculty member stated, “Evaluation begins from this month-end for both the schools and they've stated they're going to initiate action if we pass over it. So we do not know which one to wait and whose permission to ask about this.”

“The order we received from BU obviously says that disciplinary action would be initiated if we pass over the assessment work. But, the authorities of both the schools must talk about the subject before sending such orders,” added another faculty member, who were given an assessment order from both BU and BCU.

Though the Bangalore University used to be split into 3 thru trifurcation, the brand new BCU and Bengaluru North University (BNU) performed handiest first-year contemporary admissions in the present instructional 12 months. The rest of the classes had been performed by means of the BU until the students get their levels.

Professor C Shivaraju, registrar of assessment of BU, told BM, “The BCU and BNU have handiest first years and the ones papers will come up to lower than 20,000. We have greater than 15 lakh solution scripts to be evaluated. So we have to get started it first and the lecturers can proceed with the first 12 months papers of both the schools later.”

“In truth, we're comparing papers of students of BCU and BNU who're in higher semesters, so the schools must perceive and work it out,” he added.

The other drawback is the assessment centre. The BU has nonetheless now not vacated the stone construction where it used to habits its centralised placements. The BCU has stated in its circular to evaluators that they must come to the ‘STONE BUILDING’ for assessment.

Shivaraju stated, “We nonetheless have our work going on there. The re-examination work of the previous semesters is going on. We want a minimum of a month’s time to vacate that construction. We have emptied the 3rd floor so BCU can do the work there in the meanwhile.”

The lecturers have determined to way the vice-chancellors and registrars of both the schools to amicably remedy these matters.
