Hubballi: The new department of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will get started functioning on Monday from the primary flooring of KSFC construction at Rayapur, Hubballi. It will function from a 2,500 sqft house for some time before shifting to its personal construction in Hubballi.
For the past few years, folks of North Karnataka have been challenging a BIS department in Hubballi. After constant efforts of local leaders, the Centre sanctioned the BIS department to Hubballi a couple of months back. It will play a vital role in helping industrialists of the area get their products ISI qualified within a brief period.
Speaking to TOI, Nagesh, joint director, District Industry Centre (DIC), Rayapur said, “The new BIS department is usually run by way of shopper affairs, food and public distribution department, however in Dharwad district, DIC has been given an additional price to seem after the department.”
He said that in the absence of a BIS department folks in the area would steadily travel to Bengaluru or Pune to get their products qualified by way of the regional centre. “They would travel along with samples of their business and shopper products to get it examined by way of BIS for certification process,” he said.
The new department will collect samples of products from industrialists and send them for lab check to Bengaluru. “So, industrialists need to look forward to some days to get their products qualified with an ISI mark after correct lab check,” he added.
Ramesh Patil, former president of Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and industrialist said, the new department will indisputably assist industrialists of North Karnataka who earlier used to spend thousands of rupees to get certification.
“Due to the absence of BIS department in our area, some folks used to promote their products in particular food pieces and other end-users pieces without ISI mark as many shoppers are not aware of this certification. With the functioning of BIS department in Hubbalil, many of us would come to know of the importance of eating products bearing an ISI mark. The new department may even inspire folks to maintain high quality in their products to get it qualified compulsorily,” he said.
