Tirupur: A group of villagers from Uthukuli taluk laid siege to the district collectorate here on Wednesday, not easy free housing plots, which the district management had previous promised them.
Pointing out that more than 150 families dwelling on neer (waterbody) and natham poramboke lands at A Periyapalayam, Morattupalayam and S Periyapalayam might be evicted at any time, Okay Saraswathi, of Morattupalayam, stated the district management used to be no longer able to allot them free housing plots as promised previous.
Following more than a few protests, earnings officers and Uthukuli tahsildar had in November remaining held talks with the villagers.
“The govt had allocated 32 beneficiaries from some other villages free plots at Kasthuripalayam in Kageyampalayam panchayat in four-and-a-half acres poramboke land. If the federal government allots the remainder land to us, it's going to save our livelihood. The district management had previous stated it would allot us plots there,” stated V Lakshmi, another protester. “But now, the management isn't prepared to allot us plots there and it sought after us to determine ‘free’ land.”
The protesters also met district earnings officer S Prasanna Ramasamy and submitted a petition. The earnings officer has invited them for contemporary talks on January nine.
