Main accused in Rs 1cr demonetised currency case held

Tirupur: Ten days after seizing demonetised foreign money notes with a face price of Rs 1crore from a automotive at Dharapuram, police arrested the main accused within the case on Monday. He used to be recognized as Dhandapani of Cross Cut Road in Coimbatore, an LPG distributor.

A police group accomplishing car inspection on Oddanchatram Road at Dharapuram on December 20 had intercepted the auto.


“After the auto driving force refused to prevent it, the group gave chase and stopped. During inspection, we found the demonetised foreign money notes hidden beneath the again seat of the auto. We nabbed the occupants of the car T Pratheesraj of Avarampalayam and S Kalaiselvan of Ganapathy in Coimbatore. They have been running in a PVC pipe production unit in Coimbatore. Pratheesraj said his friend Dhandapani had given him the cash and sought help to exchange them. The duo agreed to take action and used to be confident Rs 1lakh as fee. They went to Madurai to exchange the notes, however failed,” a police officer said.


Dhandapani were hiding for the previous couple of days. The Coimbatore town police arrested him when he visited his space in Coimbatore on Monday. “Dhandapani informed us that he had found the notes in an deserted bag near a temple at Sulur, on the Coimbatore-Trichy Road, when he went there to distribute LPG cylinders about six months in the past,” the officer said. Dharapuram police have registered a case.
