National Science Congress: Two students secure ‘A’ grade for research thesis

THANE: Two 12-year-olds, who have been a number of the 14 students to were decided on from several city-based schools for the overall leg of the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) secured the coveted grade ‘A’ for their research thesis on usage of floral waste.

After months of exhausting paintings preparing questionnaires, formulating surveys and engaging in a large number of brainstorming sessions, Ketaki Pawar and Purva Sawant from Saraswati Vidyalaya, Ghodbundar Road, managed to bag the perfect rating in Thane district, baffling the judges with their cutting edge concepts on the not too long ago concluded tournament at Bhubaneshwar.


“On a day-to-day basis temples across the city acquire tonnes of floral waste. Sometimes it could be recycled to make organic compost and every now and then it just will get dumped rampantly in water bodies. This concept troubled me a lot and I decided to paintings on it. My crew mate and I we visited temples, housing complexes and noted how much waste is gathered. We then conducted our research online and came upon that several merchandise can be produced from these flowers. With the assistance of mavens, we made organic face packs, essence sticks, rangoli colors, and many others. We also are making plans to show some tactics to women within the rural spaces in order that they can be self-sufficient,” said Pawar.


While the two aspiring scientists certainty did town proud, the others too weren't thus far in the back of, with 8 youngsters reaching ‘B+’ and ‘B’ grade within the finals.


Surendra Dighe, state co-ordinator of NCSC said, “Over the course of the 3 day tournament, the kids needed to present their thesis and then go through a viva session with the judges who have been from other science background. Students from Dr. Bedekar Vidya Mandir, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania, Sou. A. K. Joshi Eng. Med. School to call a few secured ‘B+’ and ‘B’ grade respectively.”
